When I began to paint seriously I started with my immediate surroundings, my Victorian home interiors. With a lot of hand-carved dark woodwork one might think the work brooding, but I do focus on windows and stairways rather than dark corners. I paint stairways looking up, not descending. I love watching shafts of sunlight move over the dark wood.

From here I began painting still life, objects which could be manipulated and where I could also control the lighting conditions. Many years later I started traveling to Italy and painting architecture in landscape and seascape.

I am drawn to strange things—and people. So naturally my work reflects this. For me it is more interesting to crawl inside a shepherd’s hut than stroll inside an elaborate villa. Perhaps it’s the human quality which interests me most.

Enjoy the paintings!
